[I'm as complex as they come
And bored as they get]

[xx] ¥ Shanté walked placidly among the statues layed around, the even cobble stone path. Her walk was confident, her head held high. At the same time, her gaze took everything in, and her senses were alert of everything around her. She seemed to know exactly what she was doing, but in fact she was wondering herself. Well, she knew what she was doing. She was going to sit by the fountain and think. But with her life, as a whole. Her mother wanted her to become a fine lady, attend the balls and woe the highest noblemen, marry him, raise their children and manage the clan. But of course that was out of the question. Her father encouraged her to be a warrior, but her mother forbid it. So that left it up to her, and as much as she wouldn't admit it, that scared her, even though it was up to her all along, even though she should've decided on her own all along. Otherwise she would've never been happy. "Blast it all." she muttered, but nothing else revealed her anxiety about her composure except her words. She tried to deter her mind, but it refused. With an inward sigh, she stopped on a bench, let her eyes flutter closed, and forced her headache out of her mind. With a clearer mind, maybe she could get it all thought through and then move on with her thought. After the headache left her, she stood. Glancing around, she saw no one, but her eyes really didn't take anything in, as all her energy was once again focused on her future.

[xx] ¥ She thought as she walked, taking small steps, never the less they were sure of themselves and appeared to cover alot of ground. Appearances can be deceptive, this she had learned from a young age. Her mind whirling, she thought harder. She knew she couldn't place her mother, and her father just wanted what she wanted. She wanted to be a warrior, but until she was out of her parents hands she couldn't. And she couldn't get out of their hands until she was married. That was also out of the question. So then there was getting into the ranks of royalty, but once again she refused to grovel below someone she thought of as an aquantince, possibly a new friend. She wouldn't inherit the clan for many years, but she knew she couldn't sit still forever and wait for something to happen, while holding training sessions. She dominated these now, as she couldn't get ahold of any sword masters without her mother finding it. Curse her! That only left one thing. Ingodor. She had resolved to go after Ingodor, she just hadn't decided how or when. That would come at a later date. Her father had been thrilled, but she knew when she told her mother she'd be infuriated, ashamed, disappointed once again. It was nothing knew, and Shanté had learned to handle it, take it all in stride. It had been happening since she was four, and although she hadn't understood it or comprehended it then, now it was like a daily part of life, something like eating or walking.

[xx]
¥ So that left her with Ingodor. That would take plenty years of her life, five, maybe ten to make a good pack worthy of the land and her blood. But what about when it was her turn to take over the clan? That would be plenty of time later, and she'd deal with it then. What about becoming a warrior? Well, it didn't seem she was going to become that, so she mine as well let that dream go. But it was so hard, she found it inpeccably impossible. It was like her fingers were frozen stiff about it, refusing to let go. She sniffed. Her mother wanted all her wants to be impossible, out of her reach, and she had done a damn good job of it. All too soon she would gain wind of Ingodor, and thats why she had to move soon. She kept her eyes on the fountain, watching her destination as if it were prey that moved. She was so absorbed in her thoughts, it was just a part of reality to concentrate on that was still, and kept her from falling here or there while in her world. She grimaced. Ingodor would only keep her so far from her mother, and she found it in no way bringing her closer to her dream. It might make her existence more known to the queen, but she already knew she existed. She came here on regular dinners with her parents. So what good would that do? She yearned for the band of black about her sword, the band of black that signalized she was a sword master. Then to become part of the elite warriors, and formost to become a Black Shield, one that was master of the bow and all forms of battle, not just the sword. She blinked. They seemed to far away, yet so close, just out of her reach yet like she would never reach them..

[xx] ¥ Finally she left her thoughts, coming to the present. Her thoughts had not told her anymore today, at this time, now, then they had any other tmie. She came to te same resolve. She had to figure out what she was going to do about Ingodor, and soon. It would take her farther from her mother, but no closer to her dreams. She would be able to be in her form though, and form a place where she would be honored, revered, looked upon with something besides disappointment. Thats what she wanted most of all. Someone that mattered in her life besides her father to look upon her with something besides that of disappointment. She winced inwardly. So crucially imparing, emotionally and mentally, her mothers looks were. She sat down upon the fountain, letting her water run smoothly through the water, skimming through her fingers like quick sliver, like.. herself. She took it from the water, letting out a sigh and letting all her features relax, her gaze stopping to rest upon the last rays of sun down in the sky. Her thoughts moved from present, to past. She thought of the immediate past, the past evening. After they'd gotten hear and been seated, as soon as her mother was distracted she'd slipped off into the kitchen. Against her mother's wishes, but she liked watching them cook, to smell all the aromas and get good looks at the untouched food, unspoiled by humans hands wishing to devour it. Of course she didn't talk to the people, she wasn't one to talk much.

[xx] ¥ Then it'd been off to the dining hall, where she'd sat placid and listened to the queen and her parent's idle talk, her thoughts drifting else where as she went through the motions of eating her food. She'd tried to stayed concentrated on the food, but of course she couldn't. It was too delicious to ignore, but her mind had wandered to the far away redundant smacks of the wooden practice swords hitting one another, the place she'd much rather be. She'd smiled and nodded, putting in a couple words when asked, but otherwise she'd never spoke, hardly even glancing at the queen except to pay respects when she entered the room. They'd been shown to their rooms, and she was out as soon as she heard her mother's door close. She'd come here, and when night fell, she planned on heading over to the warrior's barracks. Have a few drinks with them, play games, and enjoy the company of kindred spirits to her own. She didn't practice with them, with so many around and never knowing who someone could easily slip out. That pained her, but still with their companionship the worries of the future, present, and past left her for a few fleeting moments, but those few fleeting moments were more merciful to her then the softest down mattress, or largest fire after a cold winter's night, and that was saying something, for she had a rather strange obsession for the fire. The way it lived, moved, licked up, feeding off the wood. If only she could be like it.. Her eyes jerked from the past, losing their far away look. She turned her head smoothly to where the presence came from, her eyes seeing nothing but her others senses informing her otherwise. She didn't speak, but waited for whomever it was to come forward, her somber brown eyes flecked with gold waiting, their gaze intense and penetrating.

The cool evening breeze was just another disturbance in her mind, and taken little note of. It only slightly ruffled her thick but short fur, parting it in small waves that rippled across her body. The castle would be like a second home to her, if it were not for who currently occupied it. The human's arrogance was astounding, as was her foolishness. The shifter could still find no plausible reason why the old king had chosen her as a successor out of all the able-bodied warriors. She was human, she was young - and while she might be a just monarch, she wasn't of this world, and could never understand it. Garnet herself could have been a princess now if the king's will hadn't been found. Her parents, both among the highest noble's circle, had vied for the power in the struggle after the late lord's death. Both of them had been killed by a rival. Garnet snorted, turning a corner without even thinking.
Even if they hadn't been so ambitious, she had still been an outstanding choice as heir. She was a high noble, true, but she had denounced their controlling ways and spent many years among the people - more precisely, in the world. She was one of the most powerful shifters of Telula, a great fighter, and knowledgeable. She was firm, not undecisive like Queen Miratone was. If she had been chosen, the world might not be in the grave situation it was.

Garnet shook her head, an amused look glittering in her green eyes. As if she would have accepted if she had been offered the position! She liked her freedom. That was exactly the reason she was who she was - that independant spirit. Being tied down by the responsibilities of ruling Telula would have been an honor, but also a prison. She did not envy Queen Mira - she merely wished it were someone else. There had always been shifters ruling Telula; it wasn't right for a human to lead a world of shifters after that race had nearly wiped them out.
And now there were battle-hungry centaurs camped near the city, just waiting for a chance to attack. What would Mira do? Go and talk. Talk, when if that failed, she had no backup. Her naivete was another mark against her. Centaurs did not just pack up and go - they were here until they were victorious, unless they could get a better deal.

The noble shook her head again, padding confidently into one of the many "secret" courtyards for only the royalty and visiting nobility. She had been planning on talking to queen Mira, but her paws had led her this way instead. It was a longer route, but the queen would not be anywhere near leaving for several hours yet - more than enough time to come this way.
Now, for the first time, the silence was broken by the cheerful sound of a small fountain beneath a willow in the back corner of the court. The feline's eyes were automatically drawn to it, the only moving thing other than the leaves. It was old, but not so old that it wasn't relatively new; small, but pretty. The water splashed out of the nozzles, some to the side, others squirted the water straight into the air.

An expression of recognition appeared on Garnet's face for a moment, then was again replaced by the pure feline look. As she set a massive paw down on the flagstones, it spread wide, momentarily revealing the sharp claws safely sheathed within. Even in the gray light, her fur shone dully, a myriad of reddish browns spun together into her pelt. Her underbelly was a lighter, more golden tone, while the rest could turn to a deep tuscan brown, all lightly dappled. Her tail was short, resembling that of a bobcat in many respects.
Pacing forward into the small space, she instantly became the focus of attention. Her lean, powerful body matched that of the largest tiger; each step precise and effortless, and somehow still showcasing her immense power.

Garnet far preferred to roam about as an animal, though she would, for courtesy's sake, change into a human when before the queen. She felt more at home in this shape than any other, this creature, that for thousands of years had been extinct in her world. Everyone recognized it, but few humans believed what they saw. She was compactly build, with shaggy fur about her neck and shoulders resembling a young lion's mane. Still, it was not so much her prehistoric looks, it was the deadly, strong sabers extending from her upper jaw that inspired their fear. Garnet wasn't like the smilodon of earth.
Though her body was compact and powerful, it still retained the distinct lean-ness of a cat instead of appearing more like a bear. And she was larger - standing just below the shoulder of a grown man. Her sabers were also different - instead of being fragile, they were strong, almost like steel.

Passing along in the growing shadows, Garnet noticed a person sitting on the bench near the fountain, apparently lost in the thought. It was a noble's daughter, without a doubt - but Garnet couldn't recall whether she had seen her before or not. Certainly she couldn't remember a name to match the face. The great cat paused simultaneously with the girl's head lifting, and swiveling in her direction.

She was beautiful, and likely sought after by many nobles. Garnet was vaguely reminded of herself, and wondered whether this girl went with the flow. Her bearing certainly spoke to the contrary, as did her eyes. They were green chips of ice, not the glowing, weak-minded eyes of many maidens. Garnet flicked her ears in approval - so far.
There was time yet, she noted, seeing as the sun still had at least an hour before it set.

Lowering her head slightly, the shifter padded deceptively silently to stand on the other side of the fountain from the girl. She must be in her late teens by her looks, Garnet decided. "Good evening." she greeted, her voice soft, but slightly resembling a growl. "I don't believe I've seen you before. What's your name?" She queried politely.

[I'm as complex as they come

[xx] ¥ She watched a servant walk by. As soon as he sighted her, he scuttled faster, his eyes downcast. That caused a slight smile to curve up her lips, something quite amusing to her. When they saw her they ran like she was going to eat them, like they did when they saw any noble. Just as quickly the smile was gone, as another presence came her way. This time it was a noble. As soon as he saw her, it was obvious he contemplated coming out, but soon thought better of it as she stared at him with a gaze like daggers, daring him to. He walked off, looking slightly abashed. Her gaze moved away, to the creature that came forward. Interesting looking thing, she didn't believe she'd seen it before. She leaned to the side, propping herself up with a hand. Her other hand lay in her lap, but her lap was covered by her scarlet cape, folded over her like a baby wrapped in it's blanket. She observed it without hiding it, but her ears strained to catch every single syllable. How interesting. Another shifter. Her mother told her she was not allowed to shift here, she kept it a secret from everyone her daughter was a shifter. She thought it was a disgrace. But somehow, Shanté wasn't really sure how, she thought the Queen knew. That didn't really bother her, either way she didn't really care. Her hair fell over into her face when she leaned to the side, and she reached up with her free hand to tuck it around her ear, but made sure not to push her cape so far sideways that it revealed her sword. She didn't carry her bow and arrows, as her mother would shoot her if she did in public, much less at the castle. She kept her sword on, however, it was hidden beneath her cape. To pacify her mother she made sure not to make it known to anyone. The one thing she wouldn't do for her mother, was change out of the men's breeches, or rider's boots she always wore. That, she'd just have to get over. It was like a silent peace agreement. She kept the pants and boots, and shed the bow and arrow. She didn't have to speak, as long as she kept her sword hidden. She didn't have to have her mother's watchful eye over her every moment, as long as she didn't shift. Of course she shifted, just after dark when everyone was long gone, in a place there were bound to be no people. Besides, they'd probably take her for another animal anyhow.

[xx] ¥ She let the female's words ring in the air. She wasn't sure whether to pay respects, she didn't know who it was. She didn't stand, she just curtly nodded, but she couldn't deny the slight interest in her eyes. If the human was as beautiful as the creature, she'd have a rival. Not that she minded. Let them all have her. She had to be a noble or royalty to be here at this time.. Didn't she? Surely she couldn't sneak in here in that form if she wasn't. But Shanté knew all the nobles and royalty, and as far as she knew none of them were shifters.. Good evening? She guessed she'd better reply in case she was a royalty in disguise. But if that was so, how was she a shifter? "Evening." she responded, and then listened to her next words. They were polite enough, but still she hadn't offered her own name first. Curious. But so was Shanté, extremely at this point. Her own kin, in the castle, she was dying to know, but she forced her eyes to keep their emotionless, closed look. She pondered over whether she should give a name, but wasn't sure. She also wasn't sure how to greet the person verbally, so she went about it in a round-about way, though once she said her last name she was bound to be familiar with her clan. "Shanté Gladenheon, of the Gladenheon clan." she said, and paused. Would it be rude to ask for her name? "I don't believe I'm familiar with you either." she stated, asking for her name in an in-direct manner. She knew how to use her manners, even if she didn't often use them. The thing was huge, and sitting down, if it were standing beside Shanté then she would have to look up. No, she, not it. she corrected herself mentally. The creature did have a soul, was a human underneath. Just like her. She forced a grimace away. Was there no way to get away from humans? Did everything eventualy trace back to them, no matter where you went? A foul taste grew in her mouth. Humans, humans, humans. Stupid creatures. Shifters could take them out anyday. They outdid them in their awareness of surroundings, senses, strength, and plus they could become, depending on their level, just about anything they pleased. Plus humans were wasteful. Ungrateful things, the lot of them. Pollution, greedy, power hungry. Of course there were those of them among the shifters that were greedy and power hungry too, but much less occuring then in the humans. It seemed everywhere you turned they were that way. She heard the servant walk back by, but payed him no heed. In her peripheral vision she caught him gawking at the female that stood across the way, but she ignored him and kept her gaze on the creature before her. She was of utmost interest, and Shanté at this point did give a flying pig about the boy.

Garnet's short tail twitched in amusement at the mildly confused expression now adorning the girl's beautiful face. It seemed she wasn't familiar with this great cat; Garnet wasn't in the least surprised. As far as she knew, she was the only person in the world who favored, let alone took, this shape. Besides, even if there were other smilodons, she out-classed them all.
The girl seemed to have mastered her bewilderment, at least managed to contain it. The thought that someone in a shift around here was new to the young noble would have completely thrown Garnet off if she had known. Now, the young woman seemed curious. The primeval cat saw her pale green eyes twinkle, even in the dull light. It was perhaps one of the most important parts of a person, and more often than not, a window into their feelings if you knew what to look for. Shifters in particular had a light behind their eyes, while humans' emotions were pathetically easily divined. Garnet knew what to look for most of the time, and it proved very useful, especially when dealing with the queen. Her shifting powers added a sparkle to her eyes, but they were still very clear windows into her inner workings. The noble knew exactly how she could set Miratone on edge; just another testament to the power of her presence. She often had the distinct impression that Mira thought she, Garnet, was really in charge of the situation - which, most of the time, she was.

"Evening."

The cool words slowly lifted the memories from Garnet's mind, allowing her to focus on the present. Now she noticed how richly clad the noble was, and though she was wrapped about in a rich, dark red cape, Garnet could guess at what lay beneath it. She appeared the perfectly brought up girl, a fine young lady waiting to bait suitors. However, now that she applied herself, Garnet's eyes missed nothing, including the black riding boots that were just visible beneath the drapings of her cape. The slight way it stuck out behind her, from what the feline could see, hinted at some concealed weaponry - a sword perhaps. She was finding herself more and more alike to this young shifter. An obvious rebellion against her parents, who no doubt disapproved of whatever she did, presumably in secret. Garnet flicked her ears again, and let herself settle down onto her haunches in a sitting position.

Shanté Gladenheon, of the Gladenheon clan.

Gladenheon... Gladenheon... The cat mulled it over in her mind for a while, some connection eluding her. She had heard of them before, no doubt. A well-known, and rich family of high nobles, considered by some to be practically royalty. Garnet knew that was not true, as they were in no way related to the current royal personage. There was, as of now, no royal family. When would Mira take a husband? It was highly unusual for the ruler to be unmarried, since it was a custom to arrange the marriages of one's children if one was king and queen. Again, Mira's foreign birth showed. She knew there were mutterings, and not just among the nobility. If she wasn't careful, some ambitious person could easily claim the throne for themselves.

The girl - Shante, seemed hesitant about something. Garnet could see the slight doubt in her face, but made no comment - in fact, she didn't move at all, and if she weren't so very alive, one might have mistaken her for a statue.

I don't believe I'm familiar with you either.

The feline pulled back her chops in what could be equivalented to a smile. So that was it - she was wondering whether it was polite to request the name of something so powerful. It showed. Of course, it had been rude to not give her name first, but Garnet often ignored the finer pleasantries when she was on an informal visit. This one was a chance meeting, and so ranked among "normal", be the person a noble or a beggar. Unlike many nobles, Garnet actually knew how to behave normally, and sometimes, she let it show - though never in court.

"Garnet." the creature rumbled, her deep green eyes gazing levelly at Shante's face, perhaps looking for something, a small spark of recognition. Nowadays, she was fairly well known for her public outburst against the queen's policy, and her work in stirring up resistance. "You may have heard of me." She added, more quietly.

Pleasantries over, she could move on. Of course, that was if she had wanted to, but Shante Gladenheon had proved more intriguing than she had thought. How often did one meet a seemingly lady-like girl who actually wore boots and a sword? Not often. Exception being Valea, but she didn't behave like a lady.

Out of the corner of her eye, Garnet spied a servant boy loitering around. Likely gawking at Shante, and though she couldn't blame him - he must only be sixteen or so - she preferred him to leave. Meaning, he was leaving. He seemed to barely notice her; and she was sure no one had noticed her see him.
"Leave us." she commanded, her head snapping around to glare at him. It would probably appear as if she were psychic or something, calling on him out of the blue when she didn't even know he existed a few minutes before and had given no sign of acknowledgment. The boy flinched, properly intimidated by her glare alone, and quickly retreated. Satisfied, Garnet turned her attention back to Shante.

"I see you prefer breeches and boots to a skirt." Though she mentioned the obvious, her eyes rested pointedly on the extension beneath the cape - the sword, as she presumed, making it clear she could see it as well. A pause followed. "Practice much?" Garnet queried, now nodding, directly indicating the weapon.
Garnet could not consider herself the greatest swordswoman, even after her training as a warrior. Her specialty had always been shifting, and using it to her advantage - be it in battle or otherwise. Though she was adept at the sword, she had never been good enough to attain perfection. It probably could be attributed to a varying lack of interest more than potential ability. Calhoun had always been able to best her when they sparred. Valea did show much more interest, and Garnet hoped that the new sword she now had would encourage her. It was beautiful, almost a museum piece, but if someone underestimated it for its looks, they would regret it.
The noble wondered whether Shante was another case like Valea, who was trapped by her parents when she wanted to become a warrior. With a sword at her side, even here, it was fairly likely.

|comments: ooc// Okay! ^^
By the way, I forgot to point it out earlier, but there aren't any Black Shields here, and shifters are the majority - so it would be a disgrace for the nobility not to be able to shift. ;) 'Tis okay if she thinks that, though - I wouldn't put it past her mom.

:D Okayz!

[I'm as complex as they come
And bored as they get]

[xx] ¥ "Garnet." She watched carefully, seemingly not caring, but she was interested. Crazy interested. Oh, so interested. The, Garnet?! Her mind went crazy, this lady was like an idol to her almost. Her mask slipped, but only for a moment, and then it was instantly replaced. She felt the impulse to stand up and bow low enough for a queen, but then she thought better. This lady was not a queen, yet. And she musn't seem like an over-excited, crazy obsessed immature, giddy little girl. Which at this point was what she felt like. As always when she was feeling very strong emotion, her face remained impassive, not readable. She did the opposite of what most people when they were feeling alot of emotion, unless she was just frustrated and it was a servant. In that case, she preceeded to yell and curse, and presumably harm them in anyway she pleased. She wanted to rebel like her, and she couldn't even stand up to her parents, this lady rebelled against the queen. So many questions popped up in her mind it was nuts, but she pushed them all back away for a later time. Then again it was just about impossible to rebel against her parents at this moment, she had no where to go. But if she played her cards right, this woman before her, or rather this creature, may be her way out. Needing something to fill in the time while she was mulling over all this, she didn't stand, but she did manage a deep nod in respect for her. She wasn't loyal to either, but she respected both, to an extint. Her parents would be appalled to know she had payed respects to the rebel leader, even her father. But she really didn't care at this point, she just wanted out. Away from them, from humanity. "You may have heard of me." she spoke quieter. Shanté was glad for the few extra moments for the thought to mull over. Yes, she had, but she didn't think that required a response, or did it? She hadn't planned on it, but one found itself out of her mouth anyhow. "I have. An honor." she said simply as her head rose from it's deep nod, managing to keep her emotionless mask the whole time, and keep her emotions in tune, as well as her questions. So far. She was impressed with the way she ordered the servant, found it the same way she would do it. Maybe she and this rebellion leader were more alike then she thought. That thought she tell her to stop now, get away, if she had half a brain. But all she could think about was how this might be her chance, and how she felt totally honored and it was impossible to pass up something like this. In fact, she thought it pretty damn awesome to resemble such a being.

[xx] ¥ "I see you prefer breeches and boots to a skirt." she stated the obvious. Shanté nodded to acknowledge she'd heard her words, but didn't respond. It wasn't a question, nor anything that prompted a response. You could tell much about a person by their appearance, but seeing as she couldn't see Garnet's appearance that didn't help her much in this situation. She remained in her relaxed position, the only thing moving her head and eyes, as she took in everything, every moment, every sound, every syllable. "Practice much?" was asked of her. She thought over how to answer that question. How much to tell her? But she seemed even more kin to her then just any shifter, and Shanté felt confident she could share things with her she normally wouldn't. It bothered her to trust someone so quickly, but she really didn't have time to think it over. "As often as possible without raising my mother's suspisions." she said, revealing evidently that her mother was not aware. She felt compelled to share her desire to become a sword's master, but held it back. This wasn't the time, not yet anyhow. She leaned up, her posture straight and tall as she sat. She swept her cave back with one hand, revealing the sword. It was of unpossible qulialty, with intricate designs ones eyes could barely see. Expensive stones adorned it, and it's balance was unexceedable. Of course there were others just as good, but none better. She would've taken it out and let her measure it's balance for herself, but being in animal form, she left it in its sheath and replaced her cape. It might not be safe her with peering servant eyes anyhow, eyes that would be eager to find favor with a queen or noble. She blinked, her eyes not surveying the area for onlookers but her other senses completing the task for her. Her look shifted back to Garnet. "I'm better with a bow, I must admit. And you?" she questioned, asking what weapons she used and appreciated, or held in high esteem. She loved the sword and bow equally, but she was made for the bow. The sword came harder, but still she was so exceedingly good at it she didn't realize, for she'd never gotten the chance to practice with a sword master. She ws sure there were some new techniques she could be taught, but within the area of agility, awareness, balance, strength, and all of the above she succeeded most others. With all her thoughts and questions running through, she decided it was her turn for a question. She sorted through them, and picked out the one that weighed on her the utmost. If she was causing a stirt and rebellion among the queen and her leadership, then why was she even at the castle? "If you are opposing the queen and she is aware, why are you present at the castle?" she asked, in her soft, seemingly uninterested voice, her face still a mask of nothingness.

Garnet could see the girl's eyes widen in amazement, her perfectly controlled mask of impassibility slipping to reveal more excitement than Garnet thought she'd seen since she had taken Valea away. Accounting by that, Shante had heard. And she harbored quite a bit more than just a casual familiarity with the name, as many people did. The feline could tell it was taking an extreme amount of control to calm herself. She flicked her left ear backwards, wondering whether the noble girl would at some point break down, and if that happened, how annoyed she might become. She had a shorter temper than usual these days, especially with Mira. Certainly she kept herself perfectly composed when before the royalty, but inside she was simmering. Fighting with the centaurs might even be a welcome respite from this stalemate. Mira simply refused to realize she would destroy this world. Naturally, Garnet didn't intend to let the centaurs near the city, even, especially, if she had to go against whatever Mira was planning. There were too many defenseless people here.

I have. An honor.

Shante's body involuntarily bent fowards into what Garnet presumed might have become a bow, but she recovered control soon enough to manage to turn it into an extremely deep bow of the head. Garnet was mildly amused at the thought that this girl thought of her as royalty. Not everyone was so accommodating. Lately, she'd received many boos from supporters of the queen. It was enjoyable to know that for the moment, she would be perfectly welcome. It was better to be welcomed than make oneself welcome, as she would be doing in the queen's court in a short time. However, this was verging on the comical. First nearly breaking out in admiration, then accidentally half-bowing, now her head had been dipped for the greater part of a minute without Shante noticing. Again, the faintest hint of annoyance was apparent on the cat's face. Her eyes narrowed by a fraction, her ear twitching again. She took comfort in the fact that if this turned out to be some pathetic fangirl, she could make an easy escape.

Finally, Shante seemed to realize she had been frozen in time for far too long. In no time, her head had snapped up again, a faint blush appearing on her face, the only trace of emotion. Garnet, though guarded, was again taken by a suspicion that they were not all that different.

As often as possible without raising my mother's suspicions.

Shante seemed more relaxed on this subject, quite eagerly moving her cape to the side, and lifting the jeweled sword up for the smilodon to see. Garnet's green eyes widened a little, amazed at how intricately the weapon was worked. For someone who did it in secret, Shante certainly wasn't being modest. Garnet doubted if even the queen had ever had a more beautiful weapon. Her several years training allowed her to guess its practical application matched its splendor. Shante certainly knew how to attract attention; if someone even caught a glimpse of that scabbard, there would surely be questions.
After an interval of several minutes, Shante let the sheathe drop back to her side, again shrouding it in her crimson cape. Her motion was fast, a little too fast, as if she feared prying eyes. So she must be fairly desperate to keep it a secret... So why she Garnet, a complete stranger?

The cat allowed her ear to return to a normal position. Training in secret reminded her slightly of herself, except that it seemed Shante was even more constricted. At least Garnet had been granted training as a warrior, though her parents hadn't been too happy. It was a custom, that was all. Of course, she'd had too much freedom by then; she ran off when her parents tried to tame her again. Force her to wear skirts and dresses, sit still around the court, show her off, maybe even arrange a marriage... The cat shivered. That would have been the absolute worst thing her parents could have done - and probably would have, if she hadn't preceded it with her flight.

I'm better with a bow, I must admit. And you?

The shifter turned her head slightly to the side, allowing her eyes to comb the courtyard. Not for fear of watchers; in truth, she was merely checking the sun. She could still see Shante with ease, and guessed her polite control wasn't the easiest thing. She was obviously very eager on the subject, without talking to her role model.
Garnet had to admit, she had been good at all of her training. She could probably have made swordsmaster in a few years, with patient training. Yet, that had never really fitted her. Daggers had been a favorite for a while as well, but she had left them as well. Archery had its advantages, and she had good eyes and still hands. None of that had ever suited her. Without a doubt she was good, but the fact was, any animal had those weapons ready equipped. Shifting had always been her passion. She had been quick to recognize its values and practice shift-combat. Her shift was particularly well suited, since it was a smooth flow and she could control the speed without too much difficultly. Any fool could fight with a sword and bow, but that fool was useless when confronted with animals like the smilodon, who, terrifying as it was, could change in the blink of an eye, slip beneath a blow and spring onto the man, once more becoming the bear-like cat in time to tear his throat out. She had mastered all the finer nuances of shifting, and was exeptional, even for the highest level of shifting. Compared to her, Queen Miratone was nothing. It took more than raw ability to be a shifting warrior - it took cunning, quick thinking, and the occasional blind fury to take hold. One can't just be the animal - to really use it, one has to think and become the animal, but still keep hold of human intelligence.

Garnet sighed with pleasure, and allowed her hulking form to move to the ground, lying like a sphynx with her paws before her. She opened her mouth in a yawn, her jaws parting a full 120 degrees. It had always been a pleasure to feel her sabers slide against her lower jaw as she opened them. The yawn had the ability to relax her, and remind her of how powerful they were. Even without the ability to open them wide enough to easily fit a human neck or arm within them without it even touching her teeth, those natural daggers were deadly when simply slashed across flesh. Her claws were shorter, but no less deadly.
Smirking, the prehistoric creature rolled onto her side, gazing at Shante with a mischievous gleam in her eyes. She had needed the yawn, but she had also been showing off just a little. Any average person would either have ran in terror, or been frozen in awe; finer ladies might have fainted. "I am good at both archery and swordsmanship, but shifting was always my passion." she purred, lifting one huge paw, spreading it out, and licking between her toes, somehow still resembling a small house cat.

If you are opposing the queen and she is aware, why are you present at the castle?"

The cat let her paw back onto the ground, completing the luxurious sprawl of several hundred pounds worth of ancient feline. Shante pretended to be uninterested, but Garnet knew by now she was burning with curiosity. She was already indulging her by some standards; but she felt similar enough to be open. Besides, it was no secret, even if some wondered about it. "Queen Miratone allows me to come. As queen, she is required to hear me." Garnet responded, failing to mention that if she were violently opposing the queen, that would not be the case. "I'd come even if she forbade it." she added in a slightly more hushed, ominous tone. Walls nor the average soldier could keep her out. Miratone was not fool enough to try to ban her - and if she were arrested, it would be nearly impossible to hold her against her will. That was the reason why there was a custom of imprisoning only lower shifters, while higher ones were banished to the Odori.

"And you.... I expect your parents have had you meet the queen? They sound like the types." Garnet queried, not quite hiding a cat-like grimace, insinuating the meaning of "the types".
